A little bit of everything, Stephie, & Shooting the Moon

Hey faithful readers!

This isn't the exact hat, but close enough :)
Just getting back into blogging after a wondrous Christmas and soon to be the new year! I hope everyone else's Christmas was just as glorious as mine was. I know your just dying to hear what I received... and what I got :P Of course, right? Haha. Well I mentioned before that I had a hard time finding anything for my mom. Well I went to another one of my favorite stores, Pier 1 Imports, and found her this scented fragrance thingy. My mom loved it (or was she just acting...). My dad got my some hand sanitizer from my melting place, Bath & Body Works. LOVE IT! He also got me some candy and a beautiful necklace that is from some women in Africa! The good thing is that the profit goes to them to support themselves. I try to wear it everyday... if I remember... it's gorgeous! My bro got me Playdoh... I've been really into that now days, a notepad, and some really cute earrings and Christmas socks! I melt for socks... LOVE them! I got an ornament from my mom and the Message version of the Bible from her too. From Santa (he's real!) I got $100 dollars for horse stuff and a shower radio and DVD. Yes I said shower radio. It's kinda weird but my "Santa" got sick of hearing the loud radio all the way in the North Pole. My grandma got me the final two of my favorite series, The Mysterious Benedict Society and an ADORABLE zebra hat. I'll attach a picture of what it kinda looks like. I had a great Christmas with LOTS of great Christmas foods too!

Anyway, I had entered Seana's contest, but lost to an Alabaman named Lyndsie or something like that. Oh well... keep watching for more of her holiday contests! They are fun!
Bath & Body Works has it's Hello Yellow sale right now! My favorite sale of the season! Unfortunately  I won't be able to make it today and I don't know how long it's going on.
My story it coming along nicely although I'm still trying to come up with a good name for it. It is still Stephie as of right now. Any ideas?
I went to my friend Meggie's house today and we made a whole bunch of little crafts of Christmas ornaments that her grandma from New Mexico got. Her grandma lives there and knows of a place where the kids can't afford gifts for their parents! So we were making the crafts for her grandma to donate so they will be able to afford something. I think they turned out pretty good! We were making these little penguins and we lost the scarf and earmuff pieces so I took two heart pieces and put that as the earmuff pieces and she found a ribbon and a little silk rose to accessorize with! It turned out as the best one. I hope the kids will like them.

Today's book is called Shooting the Moon
by: Frances O'Roark Dowell

The main character, Jamie, has always dreamed of being in the army. Her dad was in the army and has honor metals to boot. She always looked up to him. They move around a lot because she has to go wherever the army places their family. When her brother TJ, joins, she is so excited and can't wait 'till he writes her telling her how it is. She starts volunteering at the center and makes a friend named Private Hollister who she shares a special relationship with. TJ's first letter comes and she just get's pictures of horror and she realizes that war isn't all what she'd though it'd be. Private Hollister is about to be sent off to Vietnam and she begs her father not to send him. One day she goes to the center and finds out Hollister isn't there and goes to her father to find out what happened to him. She doesn't find out what happened to Hollister there instead what she finds out affects her view of war forever. Her brother is MIA, missing in action and she can't do anything to save him.
I liked the book a lot and would recommend it highly. The only thing I didn't like was the ending. It happened so fast and then just ended. It wasn't gross but it gave you a little bit of an inside look of war.

Kobe (pronounced co-ba, ba with a long a)

That is NOT us... I found this on google
but that is what he did for us
So everyone! Today my aunt and uncle took us to a Japanese restaurant (Note: not all Japanese food is raw fish) because we always get to go out somewhere with them as our Christmas present. The restaurant is called Kobe and from my title you should learn how to pronounce it! It had hibachi (do you know what that is?) which is where they have a big grill thing right in front of you and they use BIG knives and FIRE! The first course was some yucky soup that I later found out was, well you know chicken broth?, well this was fish broth... gross! The second course was salad and that was pretty good. I'll have you know that I have finally mastered the art of CHOPSTICKS! I ate the salad with chopies. Then this awesome Mongolian guy (yes a Mongolian in a Japanese restaurant. he look asian so he counts) came and did this show thing for us. He juggled with knives and spatulas (except it wasn't juggling...) it was more like what you see in ninja movies with nun chucks. It was awesome! They he lit the thing on fire and it went up the ceiling basically! Awesome again! After he swept his arm through it, it went down. They he put some rice on it and fried it for us! It was really yummy... while he was cooking it, he made it into a heart shape and a Mickey Mouse complete with eyes, nose, and mouth. He also put eggs in that but I have to tell you how he cracked them! He tossed them up with a spatula and caught them in his chef hat and then threw them up again and split them on his spatula! Skill! He served it up and noticed that my aunt is pregnant and gave her extra and called her eat for two the rest of the time! It was funny. He was funny because he kept cracking really funny jokes the whole time! After that course, we started making noodle-y type things and veggies. They were really good too! While he was cooking veggies, he stacked onions on top of each other and lit them on fire too! That was cool. After we were done eating that course, he began cooking our meat. My oldest cousin got chicken, my four other cousins and I got steak and my aunt got scallops and uncle got shrimp. The Mongolian dude cut up tiny pieces of shrimp and tossed them at us to catch in our mouths! It was funny watching my cousins doing that. When it was my turn, he said, "Here ya go sweetie" and flicked one at me and I missed it so he did another one. I caught it and chewed and and though, "Eww, that's gross." Then I ate the one that landed on my plate (ON MY PLATE! IT WAS SANITARY) and that one was good. He kept calling me sweetie the rest of the time... ick. Oh well he was funny. Later I found out that it was shrimp! I have never had shrimp in my whole life before and it was good! Yum. I still had food on my plate from most of the other courses when he dumped a huge steak on it. That was the best steak I've ever eaten! YUMMMMM!
I would highly recommend going there! Not only was the food good, but the show was fun too.
Love July

PS
Watch out Sea! I'll be bringing my mad chopsticking skills to schools lunches!

Walking Through the Rain

Hey guys. Today I've been doing some searching for another book title and cover since the other one... didn't work. I wanted the cover to show that Elle's life isn't all she wanted it to be so I picked rain to represent the hard time she has. But I also wanted it to show something better! A light at the end of the tunnel (if you know what I mean). So I picked a little girl dancing in the rain. Overcoming the darkness of life! I though, "Hmm, now what title could go along with that?"

I came to the conclusion, that I thought was a good one, of the title: Walking Through the Rain. What do you think about the title? I'll show you the cover pics I was thinking of too.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon awakening a sparkle on the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Post note: I made a small adjustment on the first line of the forth verse because of something that might make you freak out a little bit depending on who you are

Heyyy!

Heyyy guys! My somewhat late night post (well not that late) is gonna be short... I've got a whole stack of books for Christmas vacation so I'll be blogging on them soon!

Anyway Shirley had another seizure today. Not good. Hopefully they will stop because I don't want her to have problems or anything!

My dad is a big hunter so he went out hunting again tonight and got another deer. His sixth I think! Even though I am a huge animal lover, I eat the meat and it is actually really good. Sea would agree with me there! She always begs me for my jerky at school...

That is soooo my tree... NOT!
I am proud to say that I have completed all my Christmas shopping! Yay! Finally! My mom is always the hardest to shop for so I hope she likes what I got her... I can reveal that after Christmas. For a while it had looked like we would have a green Christmas but it has been snowing pretty hard all night! Let's hope for a white one. Can you believe that it's almost Christmas already? It seems like it has just snuck up on me. I feel like I'm saying the word "Christmas" to much...

I finally got another letter from my pen-pal who lives in Oregon. Her name is July too! This time she included a picture of herself and she is amazingly pretty. Like I'm not joking she is beautiful. I kinda don't want to send her a picture of me because I'm not the prettiest thing in the world... any advice?

Don't forget to enter Sea's contest! Entries are due tomorrow... and email her at

Well, Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

Cheesy Yummy Muffin Cakes

Hello Everyone! Today I'm gonna do another book character for you! Today's person is Gigi, Megan's grandma who comes to live with her family. Gigi LOVES to cook and bake so I'm gonna share my favorite recipe with you.

It's called Cheesy Yummy Muffin Cakes (or Cheesy Bread/rolls)

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/4 teaspoon garlic

Mix all those together in a bowl then add 2/3 cup milk and mix again

When it is mixed well, bake for 8-10 minutes at 450º
When finished brush the following on top of the rolls:

Mix 1/3 cup melted butter

Christmas Party!!!

That's me (in a few months...)
Today I had my family Christmas party with my dad's side!  I got a whole bunch of bingo gifts and money for more horse riding lessons. My horses name is Jackson and he is a really messy boy. I mean messy. He is a purebred painter. So sweet too. Except that the first time I saw him he stepped on my foot and flicked my face with his tail. I don't know if any of you know this, but horses tails are very wiry and it hurt. Anyway, I got to see my one year old twin cousins for the first time too. ADORABLE! Their names are Olivia and Lucy. Lucy shares my middle name, ha ha. I also got a little something for my secret santa girl at school from bingo. My apologies for not having time to do a book character today 'cause I've got to go to my brother's soccer game tonight.
Soon you'll see me jumping into my posts!
Love,
Julya

PS: this could be Jess's post but I don't think I want to do that with this one... I do her later.

Fashion Faux Pas

Hey everyone! Today, in honor of The Mother Daughter Book Club: Megan,  I decided to do some Fashion Faux Pas just like she did on her blog in The Mother Daughter Book Club: Pies and Prejudice. Everyday I will try to do different characters of books that I've read! NO COPIES SEA. So lets get started!

The ugly Christmas sweater (top)
and
another ugly sweater of some sort (bottom)

Lacrosse shorts

Now that is a major fashion statement!

Those shoes look super uncomfortable

Poor dogs! (top and bottom)

An Indian sari (as in India)

This dress is actually furry...

The classic unzipped zipper

More lacrosse shorts... better than the other lacrosse shorts?

I don't even know what to say about this. Maybe nothing needs to be said...

Argyle golf pants I on an OLD MAN!

Too much of the same pattern. Not to mention the ugly yellow color...

Curlers

A tan line. Wow. How could this guy walk around in public like that?

Another ugly Christmas sweater

Caution: this material should be used for bandanas ONLY!

I wouldn't be caught dead with a guy wearing these escorting me to the prom... (two up and bottom)

WAY to much make-up and the flowers in the hair... ooh, no comment there

Wow...

Now the Grand Finale!!! (below)

These are AWESOME! (birthday ideas everyone)

I hope you have fun looking at all these fashion disasters with me and I hope you had a good laugh in the process!

Second Post for the day: although not for a good reason...

Hey everyone. Shirley and I were just playing a rousing game of fetch when all of the sudden I looked up and she was having another seizure thing! Not good. Three seizures in 24 hours. This isn't good for Shirley, but not good for us either because that could lead up to expensive tests at the vet. She had them every so often, but now... three in less than a day!? Hoping your own pets are fine and dandy...

The Berlin Boxing Club

Yo Readers!
I've been meaning to blog on a book for a while, but I've been feeling quite lazy lately. But before we do that, I'll tell you a bit about today. So today for school we had to walk to the library for a tour (to help some people know to understand it) because we have to find books for out research papers. We had to walk about twenty minutes there and then stood in a croaking hot library for a half hour and then went back outside and walked back to school for twenty minutes. When we got back our friend Crim (nickname for Christine) started feeling dizzy and she got really pale. She excused herself to go to the bathroom and didn't return for ten minutes. By then Sea and I had to go to band. After school she came to us and told us that she wanted to tell us something. We went outside and she told us that when she left she used the b-room and went to wash her patties. She was standing by the sink got really light headed. She said that she passed out and got up almost ten minutes later! Scary! Then when I got home I went into my den and took my dog with me. Shirley (my shih tzu mix) started walking out the door when she fell over and banged into the closet door. She sometimes has these seizures when she can't move and just shakes trying to get up. She had one again today and last night as well! I don't know what's goin' on. Tell me what kind of animals you have! I'd love to hear about all your pets.

Today's book is called The Berlin Boxing Club
by: Robert Sharenow

The story is about the life of a Jew named Karl living in Nazi Germany 1934-1938. As a Jew he has to endure the hardships of life with all of his peers becoming Nazi's and his jealousy of them. His father, who is an owner of an art gallery, is friends with Heavyweight Boxing champion Max Schmeling and makes an agreement with him to teach Karl how to box. Karl gets good but now he doesn't know who's side Max is on: Hitler's or Jew's. Karl becomes the protecter of his family as their life gets worse because of the growing Nazi population and cruelty. Will he be able to keep protecting his family while surviving himself without much food, money or much of a mother?
I liked this book a lot because I am really interested in Holocaust stuff. The only thing I didn't like was that it had a lot of swearing and some inappropriate elements. You definitely have to look past these things to be able to handle the book and you have to appreciate boxing a little bit. I would recommend it but you have to look past the first second and third chapter where things happen that I will not say on this blog because they are eewy.

Solos

Hey everyone! Today, as Sea J already said, we had choir solo tryouts. Mr. Scone (I always forget how to spell his name... did I do it right this time Sea?) posted the list of who made it outside his door. I took one look, saw my name, and scowled. I'm happy and all, but I also feel bad. Cause Sea really wanted this. It was all she was singing for about the past month (besides Silver Bells...) and she didn't get it. I did. Plus she also didn't get into the spelling bee and I did. I feel really bad and I don't want to be a hog or anything. Any advice?
Hoping for advice or condolences...

Check out these amazing pics!

Hey guys! Check these out! They took me forever! Like all morning.

This one was hard
I don't like how the capital "E" turned out
 Too dark for me.

This one was pretty easy, except for getting the white spot in the right place
The shadows were hard too

In honor of Sea J (http://seanajvixen.blogspot.com/)!

Draw your name and draw lines off of the letters going up or down (not perfectly up or down though)

Me!

Just for fun!

Fireworks!
That was kinda hard to get the lines in the right places
All you have to do though is make 3 points and take a ruler, use three different colors, draw lines off the points
Stagger the lines so it doesn't look too perfect

Just a heart with random lines through it

Draw your name with little boxes for the letters
These (top and bottom) were probably the hardest ones of all
Try to vary the box size for cuter results

Same "point" idea but I used my mom's creative memory pen/pencil/marker things to make bolder colors

I did these two with rounded markers (buy those at a craft store)
On the lower one I put light boxes around in there in my limish green color  to mess with your eyes at bit

Take a red colored pencil (marker, pen) or whatever color you choose and write your name.
Then put streaks on the parts that are hanging down (such as on the "J" I put the streaks on the cross and curve at the bottom but not very much on the strait part because you can't see those real well) and there you have your Halloween pic!

I hope you had a ton of fun viewing these and hope that you got some fun craft ideas to try!

Love, July
